Townie is invite-only. You'll need a valid invite code to register — ask a neighbor or a current member for one. Once you have a code, click "Sign Up" and enter it during registration.

All registered Townie members can see posts and comments. The forum is not publicly visible to search engines or non-members. Direct messages are private between the two participants.

We encourage it — this is a neighborhood community and real names build trust. Your display name is taken from your first and last name on your profile. You can update these at any time from your profile page.

Click the pencil icon or "Write a post" button from the home page or any topic page. You'll be guided through a short wizard to pick a topic, write your post, and optionally attach photos.

Topics are the main channels of the forum — things like Recommendations, Events, Lost & Found, For Sale, and so on. Every post belongs to one topic. Browse all topics in the Forum section of the sidebar.

Post editing is not currently available — think carefully before you publish. If you need a post removed, contact an admin via the Contact page and we'll take care of it.

Click on a member's name to view their profile, then start a conversation. Messages are delivered in real time and are visible only to the two participants. You'll receive a notification badge when you have unread messages.

Hangout is a live group chat room — think of it as the neighborhood front porch. Anyone can drop in, say hello, and chat in real time. Messages are visible to all members.

Visit your Profile page and look for the notification preferences section. You can disable email notifications there at any time.

All posts are screened automatically by a content moderation system. Flagged content is reviewed by a site admin. If you see something that concerns you, use the Contact page to let us know.

Use the Contact page to report concerns. Include the post title or the member's name and a brief description of the issue. Admins review all reports and will follow up.

Yes. Members who repeatedly violate the community guidelines may have their account suspended or removed at the admin's discretion. We aim to handle issues with a light touch — a friendly note first whenever possible.
